Why volunteer for North Union Farmers Market? :

North Union Farmers Market is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that runs farmers markets throughout Greater Cleveland. Our mission is to promote the environmental, economic, and health benefits of the local foods of Northeast Ohio by connecting certified producers with consumers through a network of markets. We additionally run programming throughout the year for kids, called Mighty Locavores and more! Volunteers are essential to our year-round operations, including helping at markets, programs and special events. North Union Farmers Market teaches the importance of locally grown foods for health, strengthening local economy and creating a better environment. By volunteering you are supporting local farms, chefs and helping to create a vibrant and attractive Cleveland!

What we need volunteers for:

Before and after the Market: Each of North Union’s farmers markets require set-up and clean-up beginning about two hours before the opening of the market. Volunteers in this position would help to set-up tents, tables and chairs along with promotional materials such as signs. Volunteers must be in good physical condition.

At the Market: North Union will train volunteers in our counting method to track market attendance at each of our markets. This information is very important in tracking the success of markets and applying for grants.

IMG_2125bfbMighty Locavores:  This program focuses on educational outreach to 4,000+ children in Cleveland with emphasis on eating healthy and local food. After some training volunteers would help run an educational table at the Shaker Square Farmers Market Saturday mornings from 8am-noon.

Low Income Access: This program provides local food access through SNAP (formally known as food stamps), Women Infants and Children (WIC and Senior Coupon). Volunteers working with low-income access will be stationed at the Market Information Tent for the duration of the market and will manage the EBT machine and recording of data after proper training.

Cleveland Garlic Festival:  This annual FUNdraiser requires a lot of extra help, from set up days prior the festival to tear down right after. You will also receive 3 weekend passes to attend the event!! Sign up here!
