Cuyahoga County Women Infants and Children (WIC)
Program and Coupons

WIC provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

Administered in Cuyahoga County by The MetroHealth System, the program operates twenty-one nutrition education program sites, and serves over 35,000 participants each month throughout Cuyahoga County.

WIC volunteers will be at some of the markets this year to pass out coupons to participants.  Coupons may be used at any of our markets.  Farmers who accept WIC coupons will have signs posted or ask the farmer if they accept WIC coupons.

SNAP Program

North Union Farmers Market now accepts SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) through the Ohio Direction Card at all of its 9 locations in 2013.  SNAP recipients may bring their Ohio Direction Card to the farmers market and obtain tokens which may be used to purchase fresh, local vegetables, fruits, dairy products, meat products, honey, preserves, baked goods, plants used to produce food at home and much more. SNAP recipients should first visit the “Market Information” tent to receive tokens before purchasing items. EBT Card

North Union Farmers Market is pleased to participate in the EBT "Double Value Produce Perks" Incentive Program of the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Food Policy Coalition. Customers utilizing the Ohio Direction Card (or EBT) can receive extra money or “Produce Perks” in the form of market-dispensed tokens towards the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables. To receive your “Produce Perks,” make sure to locate the North Union Farmers Market tent and use your Ohio Direction Card to purchase tokens. North Union will provide a dollar-for-dollar match (up to $10) in “Produce Perks” tokens that can be used to purchase fresh produce from local farmers.
